What is the Swiss Ladder system?
The Swiss Ladder system is a mathematical formula with which the computer determines the next matches according to the ranking of the poule after the former matches. Usually the number 1 will play against number 2, number 3 against number 4, etc. If you already played against another opponent, the next best player will be selected as opponent for the next match.
If e.g. number 1 already played against number 2, his next opponent will be number 3. Number 2 will then play against number 4. The next round there will be another ranking and the same concept will be followed. The advantage of this system is that during the course of the tournament you will play more and more against players of equal strength, because that players will have about the same ranking. This means exiting matches for everybody! A major advantage is that there are no "losers" in this system; everybody will play about the same number of matches! After three rounds already a reliable ranking will be established, although you might not play against everybody within your poule.
•- One large poule with players
•- The computer determines your next opponent
•- So, you will play a lot of matches
•- Against players of equal strength
•- There are no "losers"
•- And the best player will win!
